Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement is made by Waste Collection Brompton in respect of the financial year ending 31 December and sets out the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. Waste Collection Brompton provides waste management and related services and recognises its responsibility to act ethically and with integrity in all business relationships.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Waste Collection Brompton has a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced or compulsory labour, and child labour. We are committed to operating in line with applicable legislation and to continually improving our practices to identify, prevent, and address any risk of exploitation within our business and supply chain.
We expect the same high standards from all those we work with, including suppliers, contractors, agency staff providers, and other business partners. Any form of abuse of human rights is entirely incompatible with our values and our code of conduct.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Our core activities include the collection, transport, sorting, and disposal of waste and recyclable materials for commercial and residential customers. Our supply chain includes providers of vehicles, fuel, equipment, protective clothing, temporary labour, facilities management, technology solutions, and professional services.
We recognise that some areas of our supply chain, such as outsourced labour, cleaning services, and the sourcing of uniforms and equipment, may carry a higher risk of modern slavery. We focus particular attention on these areas when assessing and managing risk.
Supplier Standards and Audit Process
We require our key suppliers to comply with all applicable labour and human rights laws and to uphold standards that are consistent with our zero-tolerance policy. Supplier contracts and purchase terms incorporate obligations relating to ethical conduct, fair working conditions, and compliance with modern slavery legislation.
Supplier due diligence is conducted for new and higher-risk suppliers. This may include pre-qualification questionnaires, review of policies, assessment of labour practices, and verification of the use of reputable recruitment channels. Where appropriate, we undertake audits of selected suppliers to review working conditions, employment documentation, and evidence of right-to-work checks.
If an audit or review identifies non-compliance or heightened risk, we work with the supplier to agree corrective actions and timescales. Where a supplier is unwilling or unable to address concerns adequately, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the relationship.
Training, Awareness, and Reporting Channels
We provide information and training to managers and relevant employees so they can recognise signs of modern slavery and know how to respond to concerns. Induction and refresher sessions reinforce our expectations around ethical behaviour, respect, and zero tolerance for exploitation.
Waste Collection Brompton encourages anyone who has concerns about modern slavery or unethical conduct to report them without fear of retaliation. Concerns can be raised through line managers, the human resources team, or a designated confidential reporting route. All reports are taken seriously, treated sensitively, and investigated promptly.
Where appropriate, we will cooperate with law enforcement and specialist agencies and take immediate steps to protect anyone who may be at risk. Disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or contract, may be taken against individuals or organisations found to be involved in modern slavery.
Monitoring, Review, and Continuous Improvement
We are committed to reviewing our approach to modern slavery on an annual basis. Each year we will assess the effectiveness of our policies, due diligence, and training, and update our procedures to reflect changes in legislation, industry guidance, and best practice.
As part of this review, we will consider audit findings, reported concerns and outcomes, feedback from employees and suppliers, and any incidents that have arisen. We will set objectives for improvement, which may include enhanced supplier screening, expanded training, or further integration of human rights considerations into our procurement processes.
This Statement has been approved by the leadership of Waste Collection Brompton, who are responsible for ensuring that it is implemented and communicated throughout the organisation and made available to stakeholders. It will be reviewed, updated, and published annually.
